UNDERSTANDING MEMORY PROCESS

taken from a website, memory is the process that is used to acquire, retain, and later retrieve information. the memory process involves three domains, which have been ranked into 3 stages, :-

encoding: processing incoming information so it can be entered into the memory. it will never be remembered. encoding requires paying attention to information and linking it to existing knowledge in order to make the new information meaningful and thus easier to be remembered.

storage: maitaining information in memory for a period of time. it is believed that we can gather in three main storage areas: sensory memory, short term memory, long term memory. these areas vary according to time frames.

retrieval: accessing or recalling stored information from memory so it can be used. the ability to access and retrieve information from memory allows you to use the memories for answer questions, perform tasks, make decisions and interact with people.
